On March 17th, 2011, Boeing conducted the trial run for its new 747-8 Intercontinental in Seattle, almost exactly 42 years to the date of the flight of the original 747.

With several thousand Boeing employees and aviation enthusiasts present, the 747-8 Intercontinental conducted a successful four hour flight from Boeing’s Paine Field in the Seattle, Washington district of the United States. The 747-8 Intercontinental features 467 passenger seats, lower fuel consumption and multiple wing, engine and cockpit enhancements over the previous model of the 747.

The 747-8 Intercontinental is seen to be Boeing response to the Airbus 525-A, which currently holds the title of largest passenger airliner in the aviation industry. Boeing has already taken orders for 33 747-8 passenger planes at a price tag of 317.5 million per aircraft.
